Rangers: Cyriel Dessers now undroppable for Philippe Clement despite 20% display v Ross County
Rangers have now finally caught up with fierce rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after a lengthy pursuit.
They now sit joint-first after their 3-1 win against Ross County on Wednesday (14 February), with the two clubs level on both points and goal difference.
Goals scored is the only thing keeping the Bhoys top of the pile, but that really shouldn’t be the case after what happened against the Staggies.
Philippe Clement will be happy with the three points, but he won’t be happy with their finishing, with the hosts having had 23 shots on target throughout the 90 minutes [BBC Sport, 14 February].
And one man who can be singled out in particular for these failings is Cyriel Dessers, with the striker having had seven of those total shots on target [Sofascore].
He also had two shots off target, as well as one shot blocked, with his two goals from those 10 shots in total giving him just a 20% success rate.
As per Sofascore, the summer signing hit the woodwork once and missed four big chances, with Dessers also winning just two of his seven duels in an eventful night under the lights.
But perhaps he and Clement will note the simple fact that the former’s double effectively won the game for the home side.
John Souttar netted a late third for the Gers, with Simon Murray having equalised for the visitors, with Dessers the difference between the two sides at Ibrox.

And that should be more than enough for Clement to hand the striker another start when Rangers travel to St Johnstone on Sunday (18 February), which is likely to see January signing Fabio Silva condemned to the bench once more.
