BBC Sport: ‘Ibrox howling’ after Oscar Cortes incident in Rangers win v Ross County
Rangers supporters inside Ibrox were left “howling” after a late incident involving Oscar Cortes during the 3-1 win over Ross County on Wednesday 14 February.
Philippe Clement’s side missed the opportunity to move to the top of the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.
The Gers needed to beat the Staggies by a margin of three or more goals and narrowly missed this objective, despite their dominance.
As per BBC Sport (14 February) the home side saw their appeals for a penalty turned away in the dying moments after second-half substitute Cortes went to ground inside the penalty area.
“Ibrox howling for a penalty. (Oscar) Cortes hits the deck with Max Sheaf holding his shirt. However, the Rangers forward is equally tugging his.
“Both as bad as each other.”
Rangers will rue missed chances
Whether or not Rangers fans continue to call for a penalty after they watch the highlights upon their return home is irrelevant, with the late calls seemingly nothing more than last-gasp desperation inside Ibrox.
With one more goal enough to send them top and leave the title race in their hands, it is understandable why the home support were calling for any late decision to go their way.
However, Clement will have little room for any complaints, with the Light Blues’ failure to leapfrog Celtic and move top of the Scottish Premiership down to nobody but themselves.
Cyriel Dessers did grab a brace but was still wasteful in front of goal as his side had a staggering 43 shots, with 23 of those on target, but only managed to find the back of the net three times.

Rangers will need to be far more clinical in front of goal and rely on fewer penalty shouts if they are to beat Celtic to the championship this season.
