Barry Ferguson shares fresh Ryan Jack admission ahead of Rangers clash v Ayr United
Rangers manager Philippe Clement will name Ryan Jack in his starting XI to face Ayr United in the Scottish Cup clash, according to Barry Ferguson.
The 31-year-old has made a return from injury in the last few weeks, appearing from the bench against Hibernian and St Mirren, before getting a long-awaited start against Livingston. However, he was then absent from the squad that beat Aberdeen.
But with Clement admitting that Jack was just missing as a precaution to manage his workload, Ferguson has admitted that he has “got a feeling” that the Scottish international will start Saturday’s (10 February) clash.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (9 February, 9:00) he said: “You need to be careful with guys that have had injuries over the last year or so, they’ve been coming back, playing four or five games and then been missing for another four or five.
“He’s definitely doing the right thing in managing them, he did it with Ryan Jack during the week. Tom Lawrence came into that central midfield role and now he’s just mentioned that Lawrence won’t be in the squad.
“I’ve got a feeling that Ryan Jack will come back into that midfield birth alongside John Lundstram.”
Philippe Clement to let Ryan Jack loose for Rangers
The injury situation when Clement arrived at Ibrox was nothing short of ridiculous, with several key Rangers players spending far too long on the treatment table. While it hasn’t yet been conquered, things seem to be heading in the right direction.
Clement has managed to rest and rotate his squad so effectively so that when players return to the fold, they are able to stay fitter for longer without repeatedly breaking down week after week.

While there have been a few exceptions to that rule, including Danilo and Kemar Roofe who have picked up more serious injuries, the Light Blues have managed to build the foundations of a side that can be injury-free for the majority of a season.
Hopefully, Ferguson will be correct in his prediction and Jack will start from the off on Saturday as he continues to be able to build towards full match fitness.
