Pundit shares how Philippe Clement is getting best out of Rangers ‘game-changer’ Todd Cantwell
Barry Ferguson believes Todd Cantwell was playing in his “most dangerous” position in the Rangers victory over Aberdeen on Tuesday (6 February).
Writing on the Daily Record website on Friday (9 February), the pundit said you have to get the 25-year-old in the rights areas for him to be “effective” and that’s by playing him “centrally and high up the pitch” after he scored his fifth goal in his last eight games in the 2-1 win over the Dons at Ibrox.
He added that the Englishman is a “game-changer” as he claims the attacking midfielder’s winning goal against Aberdeen could be “massive” come the end of the season as the Gers look to battle it out with Celtic for the SPL title.
“And then we have Todd Cantwell,” said Ferguson. “I’ve written a lot about the Englishman in this column lately and right now he’s justifying what I’ve always thought about him. He’s a talent pure and simple but it’s about making sure you get him in the right areas to be effective.
“This week against Livingston and Aberdeen you saw him where I believe he’s at his most dangerous – playing centrally and high up the pitch.
“And now he’s backing that theory up with goals. It’s five in the last eight games now and those are the kind of figures you expect from a Rangers No10. He’s a game-changer and his strike against Aberdeen might be a massive goal come the end of the season.”
Todd Cantwell could prove to be the difference for Rangers
There had been question marks about Cantwell just a few weeks ago, but he has certainly stepped up for Rangers in the past few matches to silence his many doubters.
He had been involved in an off-field feud with Chris Sutton and was struggling to really have an impact on the side, but he now appears to have got his head down and is fully focused on matters on the pitch.
It was a huge goal that he scored against Aberdeen to secure the Gers a victory to keep them on the toes of Celtic in the race for the SPL title.

Philippe Clement appears to have worked out how much of an influence he can have playing just behind a central striker following his recent scoring streak.
The attacking midfielder could prove to be the difference for the Light Blues in the race for the title as it’s important that other players chip in with goals to make up for the fact that they are missing some key forwards at the moment.
