Rangers have Lawrence Shankland transfer alternative as Bojan Miovski makes new Ibrox admission

Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski has welcomed transfer links with Rangers ahead of the summer window.

Miovski has been in great form for the Dons this season, having scored 19 goals in 34 matches in all competitions so far.

The North Macedonia international was touted as a possible target for Rangers in January, while Celtic and Southampton were also linked.

And Miovski, while understandably saying he is in no rush to depart Pittodrie, is liking the fact he is being mentioned as a target for those clubs.

“I’m playing the best season of my career at Aberdeen and I’m enjoying football,” he said, as per the Daily Record [8 February].

“I like Scotland. It has a great passion for football. People love the club, they are with us everywhere.

“I like Scottish football because it is played very quickly and all the time the balls are put forward towards us strikers.

“The game is played with a lot of contact, but it’s direct and I love seeing this much action in the penalty box.

“I am happy to be linked with clubs like Celtic, Rangers and Southampton because that means I’m making progress.”

Lawrence Shankland contract uncertainty

Talk surrounding Hearts ace Lawrence Shankland and a move to Ibrox dominated the gossip columns in the January transfer window.

Shankland will surely remain top of the Gers’ transfer wishlist should he be allowed to enter the final 12 months of his contract come the summer.

However, if Shankland pens a new deal at Tynecastle, or indeed is snapped up by another club, Miovski seems like the best alternative.

The 24-year-old’s price tag could prove an issue, and Rangers should not pay over the odds, but at least he is proven in this league.

Hailed as “brilliant” by Kelle Roos, Miovski would be ready to hit the ground running should he indeed join in the summer.

New Aberdeen boss Neil Warnock this week set Miovski the challenge of hitting 30 league goals for the campaign [Aberdeen Live].

Should he do so, Rangers should not think twice about making him their marquee signing of the summer.
