Rangers: Official letter sent to SPFL amid ‘troubling concerns’ after report published
Rangers have slammed the SPFL and its chairman Murdock MacLennan in a joint letter alongside five other top-flight clubs.
The letter, which was sent by the Gers, Aberdeen, Motherwell, Livingston, St Johnstone and St Mirren, was issued on Thursday (8 February, via Chris Jack) in response to the handling of the recent Independent Governance report after “serious concerns” have been raised about its independence, transparency and the overall governance of the SPFL.
After claiming only one of the 42 member clubs had the opportunity to input into the report’s investigation, the letter called on the people in charge of the SPFL to provide clarity over the “deeply troubling concerns as a matter of urgency”.
Rangers and other SPFL clubs want answers
Rangers and the other SPFL clubs involved in the joint letter are completely within their rights to demand answers after this situation has been poorly handled.
There has long been concern expressed over how the Scottish league’s are being run and this will draw more attention to the issues at hand.
It’s completely unfair and takes away any independence when only one of the 42 member clubs was allowed to be involved in the process.
The league is there to represent the entire pyramid and it’s about time every single one of those clubs were treated equally.
It will be interesting to see what the response will be from the SPFL as this letter will no doubt have ramped up the pressure on the decision-makers at the top.
