Philippe Clement told how to get best out of ‘top footballer’ Fabio Silva at Rangers

Philippe Clement will get the best out of Fabio Silva if he is used in the number 10 position at Rangers, according to Derek Ferguson.

The Portuguese made the move to Ibrox on a six-month loan early in the January transfer window and scored his first goal for the club in the 3-0 win over Livingston on Saturday (3 February).

It was expected that Clement would look to sign a more natural striker on top of bringing in Silva from Wolves on a temporary basis but no such transfer materialised.

Consequently, Silva has been utilised in several different positions in his relatively short Rangers stint thus far and Ferguson – speaking exclusively to Ibrox News – spoke about how to consistently see the best of the 20-year-old.

“I think you can there’s a top footballer in there, he’s been maybe played out of position a little bit in terms of he’s been asked to lead the front line a little bit which isn’t natural for him,” said Ferguson.

“I think he’s more he kind of drops into the number 10 positions on the half turn, then you see the best of Fabio Silva so he’s had to adapt, the manager’s asked him to play in a few different positions.

“He’s shown the right attitude and done that. I like Fabio Silva he’s a good addition to Rangers.”

More to come from Fabio Silva at Rangers

There was a lot of positivity about this signing when it was announced because Wolves paid a heck of a lot of money, with Sky Sports saying it was worth £35million.

The difficulty he has faced in his young career is no one has really nailed down his best position and that is something he has had to contend with at Ibrox too thus far.

Ferguson is probably right in that he is best served not as a central striker, though some would argue he is actually more adept playing on the left as an inside forward.

Still, having a player like that in the forward areas with so much versatility can only be a good thing and there is more to come from Fabio Silva at Rangers.

In other Rangers news, one player is due to jet out of Glasgow on Friday as another Ibrox exit is on the cards.
