Joe Worrall speaks out about Rangers title hopes with Jim White live on talkSPORT
Joe Worrall has made a Rangers title admission as they look to challenge Celtic for Scottish football’s biggest honour this season.
Speaking to the former Gers loanee on talkSPORT on Thursday (8 February, 11:28am), host Jim White said it “would be something” if Philippe Clement’s side could “take the baton” from their Old Firm rivals this season.
The 27-year-old centre-back, who has just joined Besiktas on loan from Nottingham Forest, admitted that the Hoops are a “big driving force” at the moment, but that he “wouldn’t write Rangers off just yet” as he revealed that he still keeps an eye on how the club are getting on following his time at Ibrox.
“You’ll remember your time with Rangers, they’re nip and tuck with Celtic,” said White. “It would be something if Rangers could take the baton from Celtic this season, right?”
“Yeah, definitely,” replied Worrall. “I’m always keeping an eye on the Gers. I’ve got a lot of friends up there and I really enjoyed my time up there, some very fond memories.
“They’ve recruited well and stuff has changed since I was there. They’ve had steady progress over the years and I think Celtic are, obviously, a big driving force at the moment, but I wouldn’t write Rangers off just yet.”
Hard-fought race between Rangers and Celtic for the SPFL title
It’s certainly going to be a hard-fought race between Rangers and Celtic for the SPFL title as the two sides are currently neck and neck at the top of the table.
The Gers went level on points with their Glasgow rivals following their 2-1 victory over Aberdeen on Tuesday (6 February) before an injury-time winner for the Hoops against Hibernian on Wednesday (7 February) handed them a 2-1 win and a three-point gap.
But Clement’s side have a game in hand, so they will be able to level things up again eventually, with an intriguing few months lying ahead in the SPFL.

Worrall will know what’s it like to be involved in a title race with the Light Blues, having been beaten to the trophy by the Parkhead club during his loan spell in the 2018/19 season.
He will be one of many interested onlookers keeping an eye on how it pans out this season, with the Gers in great form and looking set to stay in the hunt until the last ball is kicked at Ibrox.
