Jack Butland, John Lundstram, Cyriel Dessers axed – Rangers predicted XI v Ayr

Philippe Clement could be set to make several changes to his Rangers starting lineup for the Scottish Cup fifth-round clash with Ayr on Saturday evening.

Rangers claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Aberdeen in midweek to ensure they put pressure on Celtic in the title race, while Ayr come to Ibrox with ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown as manager.

But with a hectic schedule for the side and Clement dealing with injuries and suspensions, he may look to make several changes to his side to freshen things up and keep some of the fringe players sharp.

Academy graduate Robby McCrorie to start for Rangers

One player who could be set for a rare start is Robby McCrorie, who started in the last round of the cup and impressed so should get the nod again ahead of the man Chris Sutton dubbed “excellent“, Jack Butland.

In defence there aren’t many options for the boss with Ben Davies, Leon Balogun injured and Dujon Sterling likely to be suspended which should see James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and John Souttar keep their places. But Borna Barisic is fit and available and could come in ahead of Ridvan Yilmaz, who has recently established himself as first-choice left-back.

In midfield John Lundstram has been a constant in recent weeks but there have been a lack of options and he deserves a rest. Nicolas Raskin has been on the bench in recent games and should start, while senior ace Ryan Jack could come in also to get some game time.

Rangers

Ross McCausland has been a regular since Clement’s arrival but his impact has lessened in recent games so he should come out and give Scott Wright another opportunity to impress.

Todd Cantwell’s importance to the attack continues and he could continue as the number ten for some continuity in the lineup, while Rabbi Matondo has also impressed and should start on the left.

Up front Fabio Silva and Cyriel Dessers have both been in good form since the turn of the year, but it’s the Portuguese starlet who should get the nod as he looks to establish himself in the team.
