Doctor shares reasons as former Rangers man Steven Davis retires from football

Former Rangers midfielder Steven Davis may have faced several issues in training which led to his retirement, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert reacted to an announcement made by the club on 25 January with the 39-year-old officially calling it a day, having been ruled out for months.

It had already been revealed that the Northern Irishman may not have played again for Rangers this season as he had faced a complicated setback during the rehab from his ACL surgery.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

Initially, the retirement speculation was all quite a bit vague but the targets for him to return at the time would be completing sport-specific activities, especially cutting and sprinting, without big flare-ups in the knee.

The stage to gauge if he was on the right track was mainly how he was responding to activity, particularly in terms of pain and soreness/swelling and for how long.

His responses or lack thereof could’ve factored into making the retirement call.

There could be other issues too that might have led him to make the decision about his retirement.
