Celtic ‘small-time behaviour’ mocked by BBC journalist after what Rangers did to them

Nick McPheat has mocked Celtic for failing to secure what would have been a “historic” 10 titles in a row after Rangers won the SPL in 2021.

Writing about each of the Scottish clubs’ most tinpot moments on the BBC Sport website on Thursday (8 February), the journalist said it was “small-time behaviour” from the Hoops to fail in “spectacular fashion” to claim the league title three years ago.

The Gers secured their first title in 10 years by racking up a massive 25-point gap over their Old Firm rivals, having previously watched them win Scottish football’s biggest honour nine times in a row.

“Celtic fans, your team isn’t immune from small-time behaviour either,” said McPheat. “Building up nine years of consecutive league titles, only to watch a historic 10-in-a-row bid fail in spectacular fashion is undoubtedly your club’s crowning tinpot moment.”

Celtic fans won’t want reminding of Rangers’ title success

It was a huge blow to the Celtic fans when their club failed to win the title in 2021 after there had been so much talk around them potentially claiming 10 in a row in the years building up to that season.

They were largely unchallenged for a number of those years as the Gers took their time in getting back up to the Scottish Premiership and into a position to challenge for the biggest honour.

But they claimed the title in some style under Steven Gerrard after going the entire season unbeaten and recording more than 100 points.

After the Light Blues have failed to kick on since that success, they will be hoping this could be the year they get their hands on the trophy again as they battle it out with their Old Firm rivals at the top of the table.

There are just three points between the two Glasgow clubs at the moment, with Philippe Clement’s side able to level things up and ensure there will be an exciting few months ahead with their game in hand.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has rubbished talk about an “excellent” Gers star.
