Red tape still in place for Jose Cifuentes transfer despite Rangers and Cruzeiro announcements

Jose Cifuentes is expected at Cruzeiro next week after joining the club on loan from Rangers, according to the Brazilian club.

Cruzeiro posted on its official X account on Wednesday (7 February) that Cifuentes is now resolving the last bureaucratic issues for his arrival in Brazil, shortly after confirming his signature.

Rangers have also confirmed the deal, with the midfielder making a 12-month loan move with an option to buy [official Rangers X account, 7 February].

Rangers exit for Cifuentes already

Cifuentes really hasn’t lasted long at Ibrox, having only made the switch to Glasgow from Los Angeles FC last summer.

There was so much excitement around the transfer, which came as part of a major revamp under then-manager Michael Beale.

But like some of his other signings, Cifuentes has not been a good fit at Ibrox, with current boss Philippe Clement clearly not a fan, getting rid of the player in his first transfer window at the club.

The 24-year-old has 20 Gers appearances to his name, featuring in the Scottish Premiership, Europa League and League Cup.

But he has now left Scotland for Brazil on a year-long loan, which may just turn into a permanent deal if all parties are happy.

It has been quite the downfall for the midfielder, who represented Ecuador at the 2022 World Cup, as well as winning the MLS Cup with LAFC.

But this move could now reignite his career, with Clement perhaps going to check in with his displays every now and then just in case he has a future at Ibrox.
