Rangers transfer window graded as one new signing an ‘upgrade’ on outgoing Ibrox ace
Stewart Fisher has given Rangers a B+ for their January transfer window after bringing three new faces through the door.
Writing on The Scottish Sun website on Tuesday (6 February), the journalist said there appears to be a “sea change” at Ibrox as Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen are looking to bring in “extravagant talent”, who can then be moved on for “big money”.
He believes January recruit Fabio Silva showed flashes of the “quality” he possesses in the 3-0 victory over Livingston on 3 February, while winger Oscar Cortes may be “one for the future” and midfielder Mohamed Diomande should be an “upgrade” on Jose Cifuentes, who is set to join Brazilian side Cruzeiro on loan.
“At long last, there appears to have been a sea change in the transfer department at Ibrox, where Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen are attempting to source extravagant talent which could then be moved on for big money in the transfer market,” said Fisher.
“There have been grumbles that another striker – potentially Lawrence Shankland – didn’t arrive and the club have no option to buy on Fabio Silva but there were flashes of the quality the Portuguese star can bring against Livingston.
“Cortes may be one for the future, rather than right now, but Diomande’s all-action style should be an upgrade on Cifuentes.”
Sensible business by Rangers in the January transfer market
It was a sensible January transfer window from Rangers and they will be confident that the squad is stronger heading into the rest of the campaign.
Silva showed signs against Livingston that he could potentially fill the void left by Abdallah Sima after the Senegalese has been ruled out for the next few months.
The 21-year-old Portuguese forward registered his first goal for the Gers against Livi and he’ll be looking to help the club challenge for more trophies across the rest of the campaign.

Diomande is the signing the Light Blues fans are probably most excited about after the 22-year-old Ivorian showed plenty of promise during his time with FC Nordsjaelland.
While Cortes may not initially be involved too much following his move from Lens, the 20-year-old Colombian is exactly the type of exciting talent the club are now looking to bring in at Ibrox.
