Rangers transfer verdict emerges on £8m+ Bojan Miovski live on Sky Sports

Kris Boyd has shared his shock that neither Rangers nor Celtic made a move to sign Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski in the January transfer window after his goal at Ibrox.

The former Rangers man claimed the forward is exactly the type of player both Old Firm sides need, who has shown he can score against all teams in the league, although he suggested finances may have got in the way.

Joe Lewis, the former Aberdeen goalkeeper, suggested it would take around £8million plus add-ons to prise the striker out of Pittodrie come the summer transfer window.

Boyd was speaking live on Sky Sports [6 February, 22:14], as he shared: “I’m surprised. You look at Rangers and Celtic, I’m surprised none of them went for him. I think finances [were the reason]. Rangers obviously spent a lot of money in the summer at the top end of the pitch, it didn’t quite work out and there may be doubts.

“Lammers has left, Dessers, there were reports that somebody might have been interested in January, there might have been an opportunity there, if he’d have moved on they would’ve maybe gone and got someone.

“You look at Aberdeen, you would expect them to go to your Ross County’s and score goals against them, your teams at the lower end of the table, you could say that’s what you’d like in a Rangers and Celtic team.”

Former Dons goalkeeper Joe Lewis then chipped in: “They’re not tap-ins, every single one of his goals, a lot of his goals are really good finishes, first-time finishes. He’s going to be worth a lot of money. £8million plus add-ons.”

Rangers should sign Miovski

The chance has now passed to get a deal done halfway through the season, but if Rangers’ striker issues persist while the North Macedonian continues to slam them in for Aberdeen, there’s no reason a summer move wouldn’t be on the cards.

With 13 goals and two assists in 24 games so far this season, he is putting up numbers that would certainly suit the top teams despite Aberdeen’s poor form which led to the sacking of Barry Robson and the arrival of Neil Warnock.

Former Dons midfielder Robson joked at the beginning of the transfer window that he would beg Dave Cormack not to sell Miovski despite rumoured interest from the Ibrox club, showing how highly valued he is at Pittodrie.

A price tag of £8million plus add-ons would likely suit Rangers as well. While it would be a large outlay and would be a record transfer between Scottish clubs, if his goals could be the difference between winning the league and not, he would be worth it.
