Rangers: Kris Boyd baffled by what Aberdeen ace Kelle Roos did live on Sky Sports at Ibrox

Kris Boyd and Joe Lewis were baffled by what Kelle Roos did before Rabbi Matondo opened the scoring for Rangers against Aberdeen on Tuesday (6 February).

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (08:54pm), Boyd said it was a “tame shot” by Ross McCausland and he didn’t understand why the Dons keeper decided to push the ball out to the Welsh international, who found the back of the net with a left-footed strike.

Lewis agreed with the pundit as he said Roos would be “really disappointed” as he should’ve held onto the ball, with that goal setting the Gers on their way to claiming a 2-1 victory at Ibrox.

“You’ve got to say, it’s a tame shot,” said Boyd. “But Kelle Roos has got to do a lot better than that. There are signs early doors that he’s going to punch it back out for some reason, I don’t know why. But you’ve got to give Rabbi Matondo some credit, he follows it back in and smashes it in the back of the net.”

“I can only think that he’s seen Jonny fall over, McCausland’s got it out of his feet and he’s made his mind up before it’s been kicked that he’s going to get rid of it, he’s going to get it to a safe area. There’s not enough power on it to do that.

“Once you decide you’re going to parry it, got to get it into a safe area. But he’s got to hold that really, he’s going to be really disappointed with that.”

Poor keeping from the Aberdeen keeper against Rangers

This is one Roos would certainly like to have back again as it appeared to be a shot that a keeper would look to hold onto every single time.

He got a clear line of sight of the strike all the way, but for some reason, he decided to push it away from goal and it ended up right at the feet of Matondo.

It was good play from the Welshman to make his way into the box to capitalise on any mistake from the keeper and he swifty pounced on the ball to find the back of the net.

The winger will be hoping his performance against the Dons can help him push on over the next few months after he’s found minutes hard to come by since Philippe Clement joined the club.

The Gers manager is going to be looking for all of his attacking players to have an impact in the second half of the campaign after he’s suffered a few injuries in the forward areas.
