Rangers injury news: Doctor shares update on Kieran Dowell post surgery

Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell is not expected to return to first-team training for a few weeks, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the 26-year-old is out with a significant setback which was caused by training on a bad pitch in the winter break.

He has not played a single game on the other side of the break and his next appearance does not seem to be any time soon.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

He got his foot stuck on a bad pitch and suffered a pretty bad injury because of it.

It’s difficult to say what the specific injury could be but he required surgery so it does sound like a significant one.

His return will consist of progressive strength, mobility and neuromuscular control work, evolving to more sport-specific demands as he gets closer to his return.

I reckon he’s still a few weeks away from training.

Dowell unlikely to return before March?

While a date on his return has not been shared, it’s hard to see him making a first-team return before March.

Philippe Clement himself ruled him out for a couple of months in the middle of January and a surgery further increases the timeline.
