BBC Sport journalist wowed by Todd Cantwell in Rangers win v Aberdeen, shares why he was signed

Todd Cantwell was the Player of the Match in a “chaotic” Scottish Premiership clash between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox.

That is according to BBC Sport journalist Sean McGill, with Cantwell scoring the winner in the meeting on Tuesday (6 February).

The Gers won the league encounter 2-1, with Rabbi Matondo also scoring for the hosts and Bojan Miovski netting for the Dons.

Discussing his Player of the Match, McGill wrote for BBC Sport (6 February): “Todd Cantwell was brought to Ibrox to win his side games.

“After a stuttering start, the Englishman is beginning to show his quality as he proved the difference in a chaotic encounter.”

Cantwell flying at Rangers

Rangers star Cantwell is flying high at Ibrox, with the 25-year-old now on six goals and four assists from his 30 appearances in all competitions this season.

The midfielder is, of course, much more than just goals and assists, with his energy key to Philippe Clement’s set-up.

The Belgian deserves plenty of credit for Cantwell’s success on the pitch this season, but former Ibrox boss Michael Beale also deserves plenty of praise, having been the one to have brought him to the club.

Cantwell was in real danger of throwing away his promising career at Norwich City, having been garnering all sorts of plaudits in his early days at Carrow Road.

The noise surrounding the player and his Premier League feats soon died down, but he now looks to be back to his best under Clement.

Rangers

He put in another assured display under the lights at Ibrox as they edged out the Dons to go level with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
