Ally McCoist reacts live on air to Rangers ‘Shambles’ v Aberdeen

Ally McCoist has blasted Rangers live on air for how they conceded to Aberdeen during their 2-1 victory at Ibrox on Tuesday 6 February.

Rabbi Matondo opened the scoring after just seven minutes before Bojan Miovski got the visitors back on level terms on the stroke of half-time, registering his 13th league goal of the season.

Todd Cantwell would score the eventual winner to put the Gers equal on points with Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. Despite the result, McCoist was still in awe at how Miovski was allowed to score.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on Wednesday (7 February), the former Rangers striker said: “We conceded to a shambles of a goal. It was a shambles.

“I was a little bit concerned because he [Neil Warnock] hadn’t lost the opening game at a new club since 1997, something ridiculous like that.”

Rangers hold out for important victory

The result against Aberdeen could have left a very sour taste at Ibrox, should Cantwell not have prodded home to regive Rangers the lead with 18 minutes left to play.

It was extremely poor defending for The Dons’ equaliser, with Connor Goldson losing track of his man and allowing Miovski to steer in behind and score against the run of play. Jack Butland had no chance.

Even despite the win, it was disappointing to see such amateur and shambolic defending against one of the most prolific strikers in the league.

Aberdeen were even given a massive opportunity to equalise again when Dujon Sterling was wrongly given his marching orders for an accidental sliding challenge on Jack McKenzie.

With Warnock’s devastating record at new clubs, Philippe Clement will have been sweating about his side’s chances of taking all three points, proven by his mighty roar after the full-time whistle.

Rangers are now only separated from the top of the Scottish Premiership by goal difference, until Celtic’s away game against Hibernian on Wednesday 7 February, setting up an extremely exciting title race.
