Ally McCoist makes title claim live on talkSPORT after Rangers win v Aberdeen
Ally McCoist has insisted both Rangers and Celtic are a centre-forward away from winning the league and was shocked neither team had made a move in January.
The Rangers legend relayed how close he thinks the ongoing title race is, with both teams now level on points and nothing to split them.
He was also critical of both Old Firm sides, stating they are simply not as strong as they have been in recent years, with the two derbies before the end of the season likely crucial.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [7 February, 06:07], McCoist shared: “Rangers thoroughly deserved the win, but I think both Rangers and Celtic, without wanting to be too critical, perhaps aren’t as strong at this moment in time as they have been in recent years…
“I don’t think [the game at Ibrox] is until April, and obviously we’ll have another one after that, but I genuinely don’t think there’s anything between them.
“I think if one of the two teams had gone and got a centre-forward who would get them 10-12 goals between now and the end of the season, I think they’ll win the league.”
Old Firm title race down to the wire
Rangers’ 2-1 victory against Aberdeen at Ibrox closed the gap to Celtic, making the two teams level on points with the same number of games played, and Celtic only topping the table thanks to their superior goal difference.
It has been a season full of twists and turns, and after the Ibrox club decided to sack Michael Beale after his poor run of results, Philippe Clement has picked up the touch and ran with it, dragging the club back into the title race and turning them into a real force.

Neil Lennon has insisted there are still question marks over Clement’s side, but after their victory at Ibrox they will have to be taken seriously in this title race and Celtic cannot afford to keep up their dips in form.
However, with two Old Firm clashes still to be played this season, they could be the deciding factor in a tight title race with both clubs fighting for the top spot, but also with both of them capable of a sloppy mistake or unfortunate result.
