Timeline clear for Rangers to sign Lawrence Shankland as Hearts news emerges
Rangers have been superb under Philippe Clement this season, with the Ibrox club flying high in all competitions.
Remarkably, they now have the chance to go very top of the Scottish Premiership table for the first time under the Belgian.
A win by a three-goal margin against Aberdeen on Tuesday (6 February) will see the Gers overtake fierce rivals Celtic at the summit.
Clement made his ambitions of more silverware clear in the recent transfer window, with Oscar Cortes, Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande all moving to Ibrox.
But one player who didn’t make the switch was Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, despite being “heavily linked” with a move [Football Scotland, 5 February].
No winter Rangers move for Shankland
The stance from Hearts was not surprising at all, with the star player having banged in 21 goals in all competitions this season.
He has stayed at Tynecastle, but his club have now been handed a huge blow, with Shankland telling Hearts he will not be signing a new contract [The Scottish Sun, 5 February].
That should definitely open the door for Rangers to swoop in and sign the Hearts star in the summer transfer window.
As per Transfermarkt, Shankland’s deal at Tynecastle will expire at the end of May 2025, with Hearts undoubtedly not wanting to lose him for nothing when that date comes around.

That should, therefore, result in the sale of the player, either this summer or next winter, with the former much more likely given how it would then allow Hearts to bring in a replacement.
