Simon Jordan makes Rangers v Aberdeen admission at Ibrox
Simon Jordan has revealed he wants Rangers to win their clash against Aberdeen despite his relationship with Neil Warnock, as it would bring more eyes to the SPFL.
Jordan suggested that if you have a tightly-contested title fight between the two Old Firm clubs, more attention would be on the league and therefore the league would benefit from that attention.
A win for Rangers at Ibrox would see them match Celtic’s points total at the top of the league, and a win by three goals or more would see Philippe Clement’s side leapfrog their rivals.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [6 February, 11:36], Jordan shared: “Will they [Aberdeen] win tonight, there’s a part of me that, of course, wants him [Warnock] to, but there’s another part of me that wants Rangers to win because I want to SPFL to be a very competitive league.
“Celtic and Rangers battling for it means it’ll get more attention as a result.”
SPFL title fight is best for everybody
Jordan is spot on – a title fight between Rangers and Celtic at the top of the SPFL is exactly what Scottish football needs. Due to Celtic’s dominance in recent years, neutral fans have been put off of the league, but a proper title battle will bring them back.
Some competitive edge and jeopardy at the top of the division drives viewers higher, which in turn drives revenue as the TV companies will be more likely to increase their deals if they feel they are getting value for money as seen in England.
While that process wouldn’t be immediate, bringing more eyes to the league is the only way to kick things off, and both Old Firm clubs, the biggest clubs with the biggest fanbases in the country, going toe-to-toe for the title is the most appealing prospect the SPFL has.

Concerns have already been raised surrounding the happiness of broadcasters due to the ongoing Old Firm away fan saga, so the only way to appease that frustration would be to give them something to increase viewership.
