Rangers January transfer stance justified as Cyriel Dessers news emerges
Cyriel Dessers has experienced a mixed start to life at Rangers since arriving at Ibrox last summer but has seen an upturn in form in recent weeks.
Signed during Michael Beale’s rein for a £4.3million fee from Cremonense, as per Fabrizio Romano, the shift of managers has surely played a role in the Nigerian’s multiple dips in form throughout the season.
However, Dessers finally looks to have settled at Ibrox and has earned his plaudits after a lot of criticism due to his lack of goal contributions despite a reasonable fee spent on him.
With two goals and one assist in three games throughout January, Dessers has been voted Rangers Men’s Player of the Month, confirmed via the club’s official X account on Monday (5 February).
The striker has been one of the most influential players under Clement since the turn of the year and has now recorded 12 goals in 34 appearances.
Rangers remain confident in Dessers
Philippe Clement could have been without the 29-year-old striker for the second half of the season. Verona and Torino were both linked with late January moves for Dessers, as per Gianluca Di Marzio.
It was revealed on Deadline Day, though, that he would remain at Ibrox despite the interest [Daily Record].
The club’s stance on Dessers looks to have been justified after the monthly award was given to the forward following his extremely impressive January month.
His displays have been urgent for Clement, who has been without Abdallah Sima, Danilo and Kemar Roofe, all due to their own respective injuries.
Only James Tavernier (17) has more goals than Brighton loanee Sima (15) but fortunately Dessers has stepped up to the mark in recent games with the winger out for potentially the rest of the season.

The Nigeria international has been much-maligned at times this season but was on target in a 3-0 win over Hibernian and scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 triumph over St Mirren.
Rangers supporters will now be hoping that they are seeing the best out of Dessers ahead of what promises to be a thrilling title battle with Celtic.
In other Rangers news, an Ibrox-bound new signing has apologised publicly for an “incident” during the January transfer window.
