Rangers: Former Ibrox man makes Neil Warnock Aberdeen admission

Andy Dibble has admitted that Neil Warnock won’t be fazed by the reception he receives at Ibrox when he makes his first appearance as Aberdeen manager against Rangers.

The 75-year-old has been announced as the Dons’ new manager on an interim basis until the end of the season and his first outing will see him take to the away dugout at Ibrox to face Philippe Clement’s Rangers on Tuesday (6 February).

Warnock had been mooted as a candidate for the Gers job earlier this season and will almost certainly receive a feisty reception from the home crowd, but former Rangers and Aberdeen keeper Dibble believes he’ll lap it up.

As quoted by the Daily Record (5 February) he said: “It’s going to be a huge night, a huge introduction for Neil. But it won’t faze him one bit. He’ll love it. When he steps off that bus outside Ibrox he’ll be right in about the banter with the fans.

“He thrives on things like that. No matter what stick comes his way he’ll lap it up. He’ll give them the thumbs up and have a laugh and joke about it.

“I’ve been on the sidelines with him in Cardiff v Swansea derbies and down at Bristol and he’s the best. There was stuff at the end of his last match in charge of Huddersfield last year as well – down at Stoke – when I think a few things were chanted at him.

“Afterwards, he said he wanted more! That’s Neil. He’ll take everything in his stride.”

Warnock here to upset Rangers title charge

Warnock has made a career out of being a pantomime villain in English football and he will be setting out to do exactly the same north of the border for the remainder of the season.

There is a feel-good factor around Ibrox at the moment and a genuine feeling of belief that Clement will be able to maintain this recent run of form to be able to put an end to Celtic’s dominance and lift the Scottish Premiership.

Philippe Clement has been a huge success since taking over at Rangers

But Warnock won’t care for that and will be looking to put a cat among the pigeons on Tuesday night. He will be up for it and will be eager to make a winning start, a big reception from the home crowd will only encourage him more.

Hopefully, the Light Blues will play the game rather than the occasion and find a way to claim all three points. They have shown that they have more than enough quality to be Aberdeen and they need to come away with a win this time out.
