Four Lads call for Rangers to sell Nico Raskin after upturn in form at Ibrox

Stevie Clifford, the host of the Four Lads Had A Dream podcast, has called for Nico Raskin to show an upturn in his performances at Ibrox so that Rangers can sell him on for a profit.

He clarified that, while his suggestion may sound strange at first, the signing of the Belgian midfielder was an investment and was always supposed to be sold for a profit.

Raskin arrived in Glasgow from Standard Liege on 1 February 2023 for a reported £1.3million [Sacha Tavolieri], and if he can step up his performances, there is the potential to make plenty of profit from the deal.

Speaking to The Rangers Review [6 February], Clifford shared: “He [Raskin] is somebody that we need to get playing regular 9/10 so that we can flip him for a lot of money and sell him on.

“You may think ‘Why is he saying that?’ but ultimately that is where we need to be. Raskin was an investment.”

Raskin has been underwhelming at Rangers

Since arriving a little over a year ago, Raskin has failed to grab the headlines he would’ve hoped for upon his move to the Glasgow giants, having scored just one goal for the club – an effort Chris Sutton argued did not deserve the praise it got at the time.

However, his performances can often go unnoticed as a result of his style of play, meaning he can be doing plenty of work off the ball or helping to dictate the game and slow down the pace for Rangers, but that does not necessarily get much attention.

Still only 22 years old, the potential remains there for the Belgian to grow and develop his game into a more effective all-round midfielder, and if he can start performing at Ibrox, he may get noticed by bigger sides in Europe.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement shouldn’t be blamed for his players’ poor pre-season performances

Rangers’ transfer strategy in recent years has evolved. They will look to bring players in on the cheap that can be sold for a profit, with new director of football Nils Koppen spearheading that, and Raskin could be the first example of that change in direction.
