Brendan Rodgers shares new Rangers and Celtic title verdict in ‘best team’ claim

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes Rangers have made them better as he shared a new Scottish Premiership title verdict.

The Bhoys are three points clear at the top of the league table with 58 points, with the Gers currently in second place with 55.

Philippe Clement’s side do, however, have a game in hand over their fierce rivals, while they have the chance to go top against Aberdeen on Tuesday (6 February).

“When you win any league you have to earn the right, but I also think that competition makes you better,” Rodgers told Sky Sports News.

“I spent enough years in the Premier League and I could see the improvements that Man City could make because of the challenges they had around them.

“It’s no different in any of the leagues, competition is the catalyst to improve and be better, there’s no doubt Rangers have done that but primarily our focus is on ourselves and improving our own performance. There are lots of points to play for and the best team will win the league over the course of 38 games.”

Rangers closing in on Celtic

Rangers have been superb under Clement, with the Belgian dramatically turning things around since taking over from the sacked Michael Beale earlier in the season.

The boss may have tasted defeat in the Old Firm at the end of December, with Celtic winning that clash 2-1 on home soil, but he has shaken that off to help put the pressure on Rodgers and his players.

A win by a margin of three goals for the Gers against the Dons under the lights at Ibrox will see them go top of the table, with the Bhoys not playing until Wednesday (7 February).

Their trip to Hibernian will not be straightforward, particularly after the club’s 1-1 draw at Aberdeen on Saturday (3 February).

Clement’s side eased past Livingston 3-0 on the same day to boost their title hopes, with Rodgers now under huge pressure to not blow his team’s lead at the top.
