BBC Sportsound pundit slaughters Rangers for ‘absolutely horrific’ incident at Ibrox v Aberdeen
Rangers gave up an “absolutely horrific” goal against Aberdeen according to former Gers striker, Steven Thompson.
Rangers were able to hold off Aberdeen as Neil Warnock took charge of their opponents for the first time, winning the match 2-1 at Ibrox on Tuesday 6 February after a dramatic finish which saw Dujon Sterling sent off.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound (6 February), Thompson blasted his former side as Bojan Miovski equalised for Aberdeen at Ibrox.
“I think Rangers have been wasteful at times in the final third. For a team that has been defending so well and conceding such few goals, it was an absolutely horrific goal to lose.
“Miovski finished it absolutely superbly and it just flattens this Rangers crowd. They know how much this game means tonight.”
All’s well that ends well for Rangers
In the end, Philippe Clement won’t have too many complaints as his team were able to get across the line and record a massive three points.
However, it is hard to disagree with Thompson and the Belgian will likely be disappointed with the way his team allowed Warnock’s side to get back into the contest.
While it didn’t mean much in the end, things could have panned out differently and it was an avoidable mistake.
So many things about the goal were sloppy from a Rangers perspective and Connor Goldson in particular was left with egg on his face.
Allowing the ball to bounce and Miovski to get the better of him would not have pleased Clement and the fact that the goal arrived on the stroke of half-time just made matters worse.
It won’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but in a title race with Celtic the Gers cannot afford to continue making any mistakes such as these.
In other Rangers news, a decision made by the club in January could see them double their money in the summer.
