Risks can hurt Rangers and fans at Ibrox after new twist – Finance Expert

Dan Plumley has insisted that there are still risks within the fan token market after it was revealed that the Rangers token took the biggest fall in value of any club in 2023.

The Scottish Sun shared that any fan who invested in the crypto tokens saw their investment drop by over 46 per cent after a study by CoinLedger.

Plumley admitted that there are still opportunities within the market, but at the moment, there are too many risks attached that can hurt the club and its fans at Ibrox.

“There are still risks within the fan token market,” the football finance expert exclusively told Ibrox News.

“There are still opportunities there, for sure, and it may be something there that evolves in the future, but the risks are clear at the minute for both the club and for the fans as well that are buying into these schemes.

Challenges around what it really looks like, challenges around what the benefits really are for people buying them, the legislation side of it and football has got a lot of governance issues that it is fighting with at the minute that are higher up on the priority list but it certainly warrants another look at further down the track.

I’m not one for saying there won’t be any opportunity in that space, but at the minute, there is still too much risk in some of those types of profiles and that can hurt both the club and the fans ultimately in this case.”

This is not the first time that this market has failed to pay off in Govan after NFT company Sportemon Go ceased trading after agreeing to become shirt sponsors back in 2022.

James Bisgrove has always been very strong on a commercial level, helping bring more money into Ibrox, with this idea yet to get off the ground, but that is something that could change at any moment.
