Philippe Clement spot on about Fabio Silva after two key pass Rangers display

Rangers cruised to a huge three points with their Scottish Premiership win against Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday (3 February)

Fabio Silva, Rabbi Matondo and Todd Cantwell got the goals to put the Gers within touching distance of league leaders Celtic.

Philippe Clement’s men are in second place on 55 points, three behind their fierce rivals, but the former do have a game in hand.

The man in the dugout will have been impressed with his team’s overall display against Livingston, but perhaps one player that stands out following the win is Fabio Silva, namely because he netted his first goal since joining on loan from Wolves in the transfer window.

But the striker impressed in other areas, with Silva making two key passes and one tackle throughout his 76 minutes on the pitch, as well as having two shots on target and winning two fouls [Sofascore].

Silva breaks Rangers duck

The impressive performance drew praise from his manager, with Clement noting that “Fabio is getting better and better,” [Sky Sports, 3 February].

But both the comments from the boss and other aspects of Silva’s display also suggest some room for improvement.

The loanee did have two shots off target and missed a big chance against Livingston, as well as being unsuccessful in his only dribble attempt and winning just three of his 10 duels [Sofascore].

Rangers boss Philippe Clement shouldn’t be blamed for his players’ poor pre-season performances

But Clement was right to focus on the positives, with Silva certain to have more confidence now that he has broken his Rangers duck.

The performance should be more than enough for the Premier League loanee to land another starting role when Aberdeen come to Ibrox on Tuesday (6 February).
