Philippe Clement masterstroke may earn Rangers millions amid Sam Lammers loan

Philippe Clement was forced to undo a number of Michael Beale’s summer mistakes during the January transfer window, with several Rangers duds being pushed towards the exit door.

While the likes of Cyriel Dessers and Kieran Dowell have shown signs of improvement and have managed to become regular features of the squad when fit, the Gers have already cut ties with some of their players who have struggled to adapt to the Scottish game.

One man who was shown the Ibrox exit door, on a temporary basis was Sam Lammers, who joined FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie for the remainder of the season.

The Dutchman struggled to adapt to the Premiership, only scoring twice in 31 appearances in all competitions before being exiled by Clement in the January transfer window. However, he appears to have found his feet in Holland.

In Utrecht’s 4-2 win over FC Volendam on Sunday (4 February) the 26-year-old picked up an assist and was unfortunate not to score as he played the full 90 minutes as the home side’s number nine.

That means that in four Eredivisie appearances this season, Lammers has managed to pick up two assists and match his entire tally in the opening half of the season in Glasgow.

Over the course of the 90 minutes, the Rangers loanee created two chances for his teammates, with three passes into the final third and even got stuck in defensively, winning 100 per cent of his attempted tackles and entering seven duels.

Clement’s Lammers transfer call could raise Rangers millions

Although Lammers’ stay in the Netherlands is temporary, Rangers are reportedly keen to sell the 26-year-old this summer, given his slow start to life following his arrival from Atalanta for £3million under the management of Beale [Scottish Daily Mail, 11 January]

In January, it seemed impossible for the Gers to sell the Dutchman permanently, as no side was going to be eager to pay anywhere near the price that the Light Blues did in the summer to bring him to Scotland, especially after pundits in Glasgow and further afield slammed his performances.

However, should Lammers continue to go from strength to strength during his loan spell, Rangers may well be able to raise a reasonable transfer fee for his services come the end of the season.

Hopefully, Clement’s January decision to loan out the Ibrox flop could raise the Gers millions of pounds. Those in charge at Ibrox will be hoping that the Dutchman doesn’t let his standards slip for the remainder of the campaign.
