Andy Halliday details Rangers ‘advantage’ over Celtic in title race admission

Andy Halliday has admitted he believes that Rangers have an advantage over Celtic in the title race, as they play seven of their next 10 matches in front of a home crowd at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement’s side currently sit three points behind Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops, with a game in hand over the champions as they look to close the gap at the top of the table.

While Halliday expects the title race to go “down to the wire” he thinks the Light Blues’ run of home fixtures will allow them to pip Celtic to the title and get their noses ahead in the next few months.

Speaking on The Open Goal YouTube channel (5 February, 28:50) he said: “It’s a proper title race. I think where Rangers really have an advantage, the next 10 games, seven are at home so they’ve got an opportunity to go and put a proper run together.

“For me, if Rangers went and got a number nine who was going to score 15 goals between now and the end of the season, I’d say do you know what, maybe they could be favourites for the title.

“We’ve said this for the last couple of years and both times it turned out to be wrong, but I do think this is going to go right down to the wire, I still imagine both teams are going to drop points and there are still two Old Firm games.”

Ibrox gives Rangers advantage over Celtic

Rangers have been beaten at Ibrox twice this season, both times under the management of Michael Beale in the early stages of the season. One of which was the game which saw him sacked as Aberdeen claimed all three points with a 3-1 win.

However, under Clement, the Gers’ home ground has become a fortress and their upcoming run of matches in front of the home crowd should provide the perfect platform on which to build a genuine title charge.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement shouldn’t be blamed for his players’ poor pre-season performances

The Gers cannot let this opportunity pass them by as currently, they possess the momentum in this title race. A solid unbeaten run at home partnered with an Old Firm win could be decisive. They haven’t been at the races in derbies this season and have to improve.

Hopefully, Clement won’t be made to regret not signing a new consistent number nine having decided not to pursue Lawrence Shankland in January and the Gers will be able to beat their rivals to the Premiership title.
