Rangers news as agreement reached over Jose Cifuentes amid document update
Rangers are now exchanging documents with Cruzeiro as a verbal agreement has been reached over Jose Cifuentes’ exit, according to Samuel Venancio.
According to the Insperience journalist, who has over 450k Twitter followers as well as 289k subscribers on Twitter, the Ecuador international will be leaving Ibrox on a season-long loan.
The midfielder was not part of the side that beat Livingston 3-0 at Ibrox on Saturday, 3 February, with Oscar Cortes making his debut.
Sam Lammers and Adam Devine left the club in the winter and it seems like the 24-year-old will be following them out of the door.
Via Twitter, Venancio wrote: “VERBAL AGREEMENT • Cruzeiro has reached an agreement with Rangers and José Cifuentes – the parties are now beginning to exchange documents so that the player can come on loan for one season.”
Has Cifuentes played his final Rangers game?
Cifuentes arrived at Ibrox as a relative unknown from LAFC and there was the expectation that the club had signed a talent from the Americas.
Initially, he looked likelier to join at the end of the year as that’s when his contract expired but Michael Beale pushed to get him to the club sooner.
While it worked out in getting him through the door in the summer, he has struggled to fit into life in Glasgow and now seems to be on his way out.
In January, the midfielder was linked with the exit door and Michael Beale also wanted a reunion with him at the Stadium of Light.
However, that did not end up happening and he stayed put at Ibrox, but may still leave as the window in Brazil is open.
It’s fair to say that he won’t really be missed at Ibrox as it’s hard to pinpoint any game-changing contribution he’s had since joining.
In other Rangers news, the club’s quest to seal a permanent transfer in the summer now hinges on one condition.
