Rangers: Cruzeiro manager Nicolas Larcamon reacts to fresh overnight Jose Cifuentes speculation

Cruzeiro manager Nicolas Larcamon has expressed that there is “no confirmation” of Jose Cifuentes’ loan move from Rangers amid an update overnight on Sunday.

The Colombian midfielder has been linked with a move away from Ibrox since the start of January, with the young player failing to impress Philippe Clement.

It is understood, as per Fabrizio Romano, that the Brazilian side had reached a verbal agreement with the Gers overnight, with the deal set to be completed soon but Larcamon would not let any details slip.

Speaking to No Ataque on Sunday (4 February), he said: “I don’t count on anyone because there’s no confirmation of anything yet. I know it’s information that’s in the press, but right now we only have the players who took the field today.”

What went so wrong for Cifuentes at Rangers?

Cifuentes looked to be one of the steals of the summer transfer window for Rangers, with Michael Beale favouring him in midfield until his injury.

Plus, with Clement coming into the club to replace Beale as manager, the 24-year-old has failed to make that same impression on the Belgian and has not played a single minute since mid-December.

It is vital for Cifuentes’ career, at Ibrox and in general, that he secures this loan move to Brazil before time runs out. Most managers refuse to comment on another team’s player before an official announcement is made, so fans should not read too much into this reaction.

Having cost the club an estimated £1.2million to purchase the player from LAFC, fans will be hoping that the midfielder can rediscover his form. He signed a four-year contract last season, and his current form will not entice other clubs into buying him.

Cifuentes has been a major disappointment but that is not to say he could not be a regular under Clement in the future if he improves and develops significantly during his possible loan move.

In other Rangers news, the club’s quest to seal a permanent transfer in the summer now hinges on one condition.
