Jose Cifuentes set to arrive in Brazil within days to seal Rangers exit

Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes is set to complete his exit away from Ibrox and is expected to arrive in Brazil this week to join Cruzeiro, according to Glasgow Times.

Writing on their website (4 February), the Scottish news outlet report that the Ecuadorian midfielder has been allowed to leave Rangers less than six months after arriving after finding himself out of Philippe Clement’s plans with everything arranged already.

The 24-year-old had offers to move to Turkey during the transfer window but turned those down as he wants to return to South America ahead of this summer’s Copa America tournament, and a loan move to Brazil now looks set to be completed.

Rangers shock

When Cifuentes joined the club during the summer window, you would have been hard-pressed to find a fan who wasn’t excited about his potential in the midfield area.

He seemingly had all the attributes to come to Scotland and really make an impact with solid quality on the ball, great tactical awareness defensively and fantastic physical attributes.

But he arrived in Glasgow late and with Michael Beale struggling, he failed to make any sort of impact whatsoever and his injuries and lack of desire to turn things around clearly made it an easy decision for Clement to sanction his exit.

With Mohammed Diomane brought in Clement isn’t short of numbers letting him leave, and while it’s a surprise that the signing failed so spectacularly it’s the right decision to cut ties early.

If Cifuentes wants out and wants to be elsewhere then let him go and the club can quickly forget this deal ever happened, so thankfully it’s all likely coming to a head this week.
