BBC Sportscene pundit shares what Celtic squad knows about Rangers after development

Neil McCann believes that Celtic know “Rangers are coming” for them in the Scottish Premiership title race, with the sides separated by just three points.

Aberdeen held Celtic to a draw on Saturday (3 February) before the Light Blues won 3-0 against relegation-threatened Livingston at Ibrox later in the day.

The Gers have a game in hand, and with a win in that game, the Old Firm rivals would be on level terms going into the final stages of the season.

Philippe Clement’s side have lost just one game since the Belgian arrived at Ibrox in October, being defeated by their rivals at Celtic Park. Little separates the two sides now, though.

“Clement is very good with the media; he deals with questions really well,” Neil McCann said live on BBC’s Sportscene on Saturday (3 February, 34:21).

“In-house, I think there’s a bit of momentum and belief in the Rangers squad. They’re starting to gallop, starting to gain already. That game in hand can get them level on points.

“I’ve already spoken about Celtic tonight. I think the players are feeling a bit of pressure from the fans because they know that Rangers are coming.”

Rangers are catching up

Only time will tell if Rangers’ 1-0 loss to Celtic in December will come back to haunt them at the end of the season. However, with Celtic only leading the league by three points, the loss may be forgotten about by Rangers.

The match between the two brings back memories of the controversy surrounding the penalty shout surrounding Alistair Johnston, with VAR being slaughtered for their actions after the game.

That could be one small moment in a huge season for Rangers, though, especially if they can snatch the title from Celtic’s grasp. The Hoops looked uncatchable just a few weeks ago but that lead seems to have evaporated.

Clement’s impressive rein at Ibrox continues, having recorded three victories to nil in the past three matches, extending his win record to 18 wins since taking over as manager.

They are also in contention to bring home European silverware this season, a feat that Celtic are not able to boast, having been exiled from the Champions League in the group stage with four points from six matches.

The Scottish Premiership is set for a grandstand finish this season.
