Cruzeiro finalise details to sign Jose Cifuentes as Rangers ace one step away from Ibrox exit
Cruzeiro are “one step away” from completing a transfer for Rangers ace Jose Cifuentes, according to Adriano Savalli.
The journalist reported on X on Friday (2 February) that the Brazilian club are finalising the details for a one-year loan deal with a purchase option.
The Scottish transfer window has closed, but the Brazilian window does not end until 7 March, as per Daily Record journalist Andy Newport.
Failed move?
Given that Cifuentes only joined Rangers last summer, this can certainly be considered a failed transfer, and unfortunately another failed transfer from Michael Beale.
It was the former Gers boss who brought the midfielder to Ibrox before the beginning of the current campaign, with the Ecuador international part of a massive reshuffle in Glasgow.
With 20 appearances in all competitions this season, he has featured plenty this season, but recent indications suggest that current manager Philippe Clement is not a fan.
With the loan transfer, there is every chance that Cifuentes could return to Ibrox and have a lengthy and successful career at the club, with the 24-year-old still having a long way to go in his career.
But the other side of the coin could result in the midfielder making a very swift permanent exit in the near future. Clement has worked wonders so far at Ibrox, so perhaps his judgement of Cifuentes cannot be questioned, with the club doing very well without the Ecuador midfielder on the pitch.
In other Rangers news, a report has shared what Ibrox chiefs privately say about Jack Butland after a transfer approach for the goalkeeper.
