Rangers transfer news: Deadline Day update emerges on Bristol City striker Tommy Conway
A Rangers deal to sign Bristol City’s Tommy Conway on Deadline Day is not going to be done, according to Andy Newport.
The Daily Record journalist reported via Twitter on 1 February that a move for the Bristol City striker “won’t be happening” before the transfer window closes.
In the update on the outlet’s transfer live-blog it added that despite “rumours swirling” around the 21-year-old making a move to Ibrox was “not a goer” and supposed interest from the Light Blues is not backed up.
The Scotland under-21 international has scored eight goals this season, including in two FA Cup games against West Ham as the Premier League side were knocked out in January.
Desperation
Heading into the New Year another number nine would have been top of most Rangers fans’ list of priorities, but with just a few hours left before the deadline there is still no sign of one.
The early loan arrival of Fabio Silva was a positive development given the attacking injuries at Ibrox, but the Wolves youngster is not a major source of goals based on his career so far.
Abdallah Sima’s long-term injury has more than negated the benefits of the Portuguese coming in, even with Oscar Cortes expected to be announced imminently.
There is surely work going on behind the scenes at Ibrox in an 11th-hour attempt to bring an alternative to Cyriel Dessers through the doors.
But it is going to be a very dramatic late development if it does now happen with the situation having got this close to the conclusion of the winter market.
Philippe Clement will be left short if he only has Dessers available to lead the line, with Danilo also out for months and Kemar Roofe unable to ever stay fit for a run in the side, but currently that is the situation he is going to be faced with for the rest of the campaign.
In other Rangers news, a late, late exit move is now close to 100% and there is optimism it will go through.
