Italian sources insist as Rangers exit on the cards for Cyriel Dessers on transfer Deadline Day at Ibrox
Hellas Verona remain interested in signing Cyriel Dessers on transfer Deadline Day, Italian sources have informed the Daily Record.
The Scottish publication posted in an article on its website on Thursday (1 February) that fellow Serie A side Torino are no longer in the running for Dessers.
However, an exit for the Nigeria international has not been entirely ruled out ahead of the window closing for Italian sides at 5pm.
“Torino have pulled out of the race to sign Cyriel Dessers,” the Daily Record report read.
“But Italian sources insist Hellas Verona ARE still interested in doing a deal for the Rangers striker.
“The former Feyenoord frontman cost Michael Beale £4.5million when he joined from Serie A side Cremonese in the summer.”
Turned things around
This type of speculation would not have worried Rangers fans all that much a couple of months back, albeit they would have wanted a replacement signed first.
As it is, though, Dessers has hit a good patch of form in recent weeks thanks to six goals and three assists in his past 11 matches in all competitions.
That is the form of a player Rangers thought they were getting in the summer when splashing out a fairly sizeable sum to Cremonese, where he also caught the eye.

It is little wonder that Italian clubs are circling as Dessers will already be well known to them. The ball is in Rangers’ court, though, and it makes no sense to do business.
There is a debate to be had over whether Lawrence Shankland for the same price would be a better option than Dessers, but that would not be fair on the basis of the past two months.
Dessers has worked hard to turn things around at Ibrox and he looks like being the man to lead the line until the summer at the very least. If this speculation continues up until then, it may be that Rangers then have a decision to make.
