Rangers transfer news as Adam Devine set to seal Motherwell loan on Deadline Day

Rangers youngster Adam Devine is heading to Motherwell to complete a last-minute loan with The Steelmen, according to The Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported via its live blog [1 February, 5:49] that the 20-year-old defender is set to join Motherwell on a six-month loan until the end of the season.

It is understood that Kilmarnock were interested in the Rangers man but Motherwell are said to be in pole position for Devine’s transfer with just hours of the transfer window remaining.

Needs some experience

Considering the depth that Philippe Clement has at his disposal in the defensive side of this squad, a loan move for Devine seems like a sensible idea.

James Tavernier and Dujon Sterling are much more likely to start ahead of Devine in any match, especially when the former’s goal contributions are taken into consideration.

The full-back has failed to record a single minute this season under the Belgian manager, with no opportunity to build upon his 11 total appearances at Ibrox since his debut in April 2022.

Despite being on the bench for several games this campaign, including all of Rangers’ European matches, it looks unlikely that the youngster is going to get a run of games in the side, making a move elsewhere much better for his development.

With two 90-minute cameos and an assist for Scotland U21s in November, against Belgium and Hungary, there is no doubt that Devine has the potential to be an exciting talent. Tavernier occupying his position on the pitch is a rough obstacle, though.

In other Rangers news, a player has signed the paperwork and is now to be announced as a new Light Blues player on Deadline Day.
