Rangers: Ridvan Yilmaz exit development emerges at Ibrox after events in last 24 hours

Ridvan Yilmaz’s exit from Rangers may now be off the table after a deal to bring in Brazilian youngster Jefte collapsed in the last 24 hours.

Writing in the Scottish Daily Mail (back page, 1 February), journalist Stephen McGowan reports that the Ibrox club will now wait until the summer to sign the young left-back after failing to agree a compensation deal with APOEL to bring him in now.

And that means Ridvan’s exit to Galatasaray now looks unlikely with the deadline passing at 11:30pm tonight, and no replacement lined up after the collapse.

Blessing?

Everyone loves it when new faces are brought into the club and Jefte was an exciting young talent that many people were excited to see in the famous blue shirt.

But there’s no doubting that from what fans have seen in recent weeks, there was some doubt about allowing Ridvan to leave the club at this point when he seems to have finally settled in and started showing what he is capable of.

The Turkey international has replaced Borna Barisic as the new first-choice left-back and his performances have been a big part of the success the team has had since the turn of the year.

If he was going to leave it simply had to be a financial thing after spending big on him 18 months ago, with most of his career in Glasgow spent on the sidelines as a substitute or injured.

But this could well be a blessing in disguise as Rangers know what they’ve got with him while Jefte would’ve been a bit of a gamble. Should he now end up staying, it could be a bit of good news.
