Rangers pleased as Chris Jack shares final hours Transfer Deadline Day update after Oscar Cortes news

Oscar Cortes is the “third and final” Rangers signing of the transfer window and the club are “pleased” with their business, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist reported via Twitter on 1 February, in the wake of the official confirmation by the club of the 20-year-old Colombian’s arrival, that there won’t be any more incoming business before the deadline.

Jefte had been expected at Ibrox this month but his move has been pushed back until the end of the season, but a further departure for Jose Cifuentes is on the cards.

Jack wrote: “Oscar Cortes is the third and final arrival of the window. Rangers are done for the night and pleased with their business this month.

“Rangers fended off interest in Ridvan Yilmaz and rejected a Forest move for Jack Butland. Cifuentes exit still likely and Devine leaves on loan.”

Qualified success

Two attackers and a big-money midfielder isn’t bad business for a January transfer window, assuming they hit the ground running, especially when this season’s market has proven difficult everywhere.

Fears of FFP repercussions appear to have made clubs even more reticent to be expansive midseason then usual, and a lack of outgoing deals necessarily makes it harder to complete incoming ones.

The failure to get the Jefte deal over the line is balanced out by the fact that Yilmaz is staying, as the Turk is in the midst of some of his best form as a Rangers player.

However, it can’t be overlooked that Philippe Clement is now faced with moving forward for the foreseeable future with just Cyriel Dessers available as a central striker.

The Nigerian is also showing signs of establishing himself at Ibrox after a difficult start to life in Glasgow, but is still inconsistent, and given the injuries to Danilo, Kemar Roofe and Abdallah Sima it would now be a major problem if he was also knocked out.

In other Rangers news, details on Cortes becoming a permanent Light Blues signing have emerged.
