Last-ditch raid on the cards for Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers as source reveals all – ‘I’m hearing this morning…’

We’re delighted to welcome former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points in Govan…

Rangers cannot allow Cyriel Dessers to leave Ibrox before the transfer window closes at 11:30pm on Thursday night, according to Derek Ferguson.

Dessers, 29, has been widely criticised for his form in Scotland since Michael Beale signed him from Cremonense in the summer. However, the Nigeria international has recently started to establish himself as an Ibrox fan favourite by scoring in three consecutive games since the winter break ended.

However, speculation has started to emerge regarding Dessers’ future at Ibrox with the Daily Record reporting on 31 January that Hellas Verona are keen on a deal for him after Torino dropped their interest.

Ferguson can understand why Italian clubs are now showing interest in the Rangers striker but he maintains that his recent form has turned heads at Ibrox, meaning he shouldn’t be sold before the deadline passes.

“The one thing I’d say about Dessers is that he never shirks away, his attitude has always been spot on,” Ferguson told Ibrox News.

Although there have been times this season where he’s been extremely poor, he’s started to put it together a bit.

He’s got his confidence, he’s scoring goals and he’s started to look like the player we were promised we were going to get.

I’m hearing this morning a couple of Italian teams being in for him because obviously he’s played over there before. They’re looking to come in before the transfer window closes.

We can’t afford to lose him at this stage, which shows you how quickly things change in football. If that happened six or seven weeks ago, they’d let him go in a minute but now, you need him.

He’s probably the only out-and-out striker we’ve got.”

Dessers now has 12 goals and seven assists in 33 appearances across all competitions since signing for the Gers in the summer.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have a verbal pact in place to complete a post-winter transfer.
