David Edgar reacts to Oscar Cortes announcement news at Rangers
David Edgar is baffled that Rangers have not announced the January signing of Oscar Cortes yet, with just hours until the transfer window closes tonight.
It was reported, as per Andy Newport, that the Gers would announce the signing of the Lens winger on Deadline Day. However, that has not yet happened and some fans, understandably, are starting to ask questions.
The Colombian winger has made just four Ligue 1 appearances for Lens this season but has scored against Reims during a 25-minute cameo and assisted during a 4-0 romping of Nantes.
The Hearts and Hand podcast founder took to X on Thursday (1 February) to respond to a fan’s question of why Cortes’ announcement was being left so late, replying: “Can’t understand it, no.
Just be patient
There are no obvious reasons why Cortes’ move to Ibrox would collapse at the last minute, and it would be a huge blow if something like that were to potentially happen, mainly due to Philippe Clement’s lack of reinforcements.
Despite a lack of minutes in France, the winger has shown his capabilities in just 40 minutes of football, supplying two goal contributions as a substitute. He even won his first cap for his national team at the age of 20, having impressed during his time with Millonarios in Colombia.

Considering Rangers’ injury situation, especially in attack, Clement could use some additions in his current squad. With Abdallah Sima, Kemar Roofe and Danilo all out injured, Cortes presents as an exciting prospect.
Rangers have been chasing his signature for most of the window and it looked like the deal was finally set to be announced. The scent going cold at Ibrox with throw some doubt over the transfer move but there should be a reasonable explanation for why no one has heard anything yet.
