Sky Sports pundit instantly reacts to Jack Butland exit news at Rangers, ‘it would be incredible’
Kenny Miller has shared his instant reaction to the recent Jack Butland exit news at Rangers, admitting “it would be incredible” if the Englishman left Ibrox this month.
Reports emerged that Philippe Clement’s side had rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest for their number one and have suggested that he will not be for sale at any price during the January transfer window [STV News, 30 January].
Butland only joined the ranks at Ibrox on a free transfer during the summer and Sky Sports presenter Miller thinks that the 30-year-old’s “exceptional” performances this season have ensured it would take a big fee to sign him.
Speaking of Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (30 January) he said: “I’ve got to say, it would be incredible if he did leave, but, you have to look at what you’ve just said.
“Not so much his age, because he’s 30 and he’s a goalkeeper, but if you’ve signed a player for nothing and you get £1million, I probably wouldn’t accept it because in this day in age I think he would be worth more.
“But let’s just say it was £10million, that would be a big turndown for Rangers in my opinion when in six months’ time to get that level of money through the door for somebody that you’ve signed for nothing. Without being disrespectful, that’s for a goalkeeper as well.
“Jack Butland has been absolutely exceptional. The signing of the season no doubt about it. When the big saves have needed to be made, he’s popped up with them. If Philippe Clement was to lose him, I think they would be absolutely gutted at any price, to be honest with you.
“But the Rangers board will have to listen seriously if there is a cash offer on the table.”
Not for sale
Rangers have very quickly set out their stool over Butland. Their goalkeeper is not for sale at any price during the January transfer window, even though this could be an excellent opportunity to make some quick cash.
Butland has been the Gers’ best signing of the season, if not the best in the entirety of the Scottish Premiership and should Clement lose the Englishman in January, it would put a massive dent in the Light Blues’ title hopes.

Whether or not those in charge at Ibrox would hold out for £10million as Miller has suggested remains to be seen, but it does genuinely feel like selling the Englishman would be a bad call, no matter the size of the bid.
Hopefully, Rangers will continue to stand their ground in the final days of the transfer window, even if bigger bids come in for arguably their most important player.
