Rangers transfer stance emerges on Cyriel Dessers exit amid Serie A interest
Rangers are unlikely to sanction Cyriel Dessers’ exit this window without securing a replacement for him, according to Football Scotland.
The news outlet issued an update on 31 January after Gianluca Di Marzio reported a day earlier that Verona and Torino are keen on signing the Nigerian.
However, no deal for the 29-year-old is likely to go ahead without a new striker arriving.
The report reads: “However, with the Light Blues short of options up front, it remains hugely unlikely they would sanction a quick-fire return to Italy for Dessers without signing a replacement first. It was revealed at the weekend that Rangers scouts were in the stands watching Lawrence Shankland score in Hearts’ 2-0 win over Aberdeen and the Scotland international has been heavily linked with a move to Govan all month.”
Can’t afford to lose Dessers
Shankland was touted as a Rangers target with the assumption that Dessers will still be at the club.
He cannot be signed as a replacement for the Nigerian as Gers are already short on attacking options in the coming weeks.
Danilo, Abdallah Sima and Kemar Roofe will be out for large parts of the campaign, leaving Dessers as their most reliable goal scoring option.
He’s got a decent return this season after a few initial struggles and it’s not likely that Philippe Clement will look to sanction his exit just as he’s started to fit in.
Had this been a few months ago, most fans would not have minded seeing the back of Dessers after his slow start to life at Ibrox.

Hopefully, this is nothing more than an initial interest and the clubs are unlikely to push forward in their pursuit to secure his services.
