Rangers transfer news: Imminent update on last-gasp Oscar Cortes deal at Ibrox
Rangers are expected to complete the loan signing of Oscar Cortes imminently with the transfer deadline fast approaching, according to Football Scotland.
The outlet reported on their website early on the morning of 31 January that a deal for the young winger is set to be sealed “over the next 24 hours”.
The 20-year-old is due in from Lens with an option to make the deal permanent attached with Philippe Clement having identified him as the “perfect” addition in the wake of a major injury blow to start Brighton loanee Abdallah Sima.
Rangers have signed Fabio Silva in loan and Mohamed Diomande with a permanent obligation this month but are aiming for multiple further deals to be completed before the window shuts.
To the wire
Cortes and age mate Jefte, the Brazilian full-back, have both seemingly been on the brink of arriving at Ibrox for most of the final week of the January window.
But with the deadline at 11pm on 1 February Rangers are now cutting it fine to get their last pieces of business closed.
With potential departures still on the cards in addition for the likes of Jose Cifuentes there is plenty to do in very little time in order to leave the squad as strong as reasonably possible for a title race.
The attacking areas have been badly affected by miserable luck on the injury front, with Danilo and Kemar Roofe also both out, but the Sima blow is arguably the biggest of all.
The Senegal international’s absence will leave a huge gap for Cortes to help fill if the Colombian does complete his move within the expected timeframe.
But the situation has gone eerily quiet on the striker front following major speculation around Lawrence Shankland heading into January, with the possible threat of Cyriel Dessers leaving now arising instead.
