Rangers told to pay over the odds to finalise last-ditch striker signing at Ibrox ahead of transfer deadline
We’re delighted to welcome former Ibrox star Derek Ferguson as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points in Govan…
Derek Ferguson is desperate to see Philippe Clement welcome a new striker to Rangers before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.
The Light Blues now have just over 24 hours to conclude any final business before they crack on with their attempt to beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.
So far this winter, Clement has signed Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves and Mohamed Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland on a loan-to-buy-basis.
The Light Blues are also expected to sign Lens’ Colombian winger Oscar Cortes [Glasgow Times].
However, Ferguson won’t be completely satisfied until Clement also brings in a new centre-forward.
Cyriel Dessers’ form has been impressive since the winter break ended and Silva’s arrival has also added some depth to the position with Sam Lammers going out on loan to Utrecht in Holland.
But a proper number nine should be on the menu in the closing stages of the transfer window, according to ex-Ibrox star Ferguson.
“They need a striker in,” Ferguson told Ibrox News.

“We were talking about left-backs and they’ve got a winger through the door in Fabio Silva. He’s not an out-and-out striker so Rangers need a striker.
“They’ve done good business so far but if they’re serious and they really want to win this title, they’ve got to get one.
“Sometimes you need to pay over the odds and that’s just the way it is.”
