Rangers reject Premier League offer for Jack Butland as Nottingham Forest bid denied

Rangers have rejected an offer from a Premier League team for Jack Butland, but it wasn’t Nottingham Forest according to the Daily Record.

Reports suggested on Tuesday night (30 January) that Forest had tabled a bid for the Ibrox goalkeeper which was rejected with Rangers insisting they weren’t willing to entertain any offers before the deadline passes on Thursday.

But while a bid has been confirmed to have been received and rejected, Record Sport say it wasn’t Forest who tabled the offer after all.

“Jack Butland is the subject of transfer interest from England with STV reporting earlier that Nottingham Forest had made an approach that was kicked out,” they wrote in their live blog (30 January, 19:17).

“However, Record Sport understands they are NOT the English Premier League club to make a move for the Rangers No1. The plot thickens.”

Uh oh

Well if several reports say that it was Forest that made the move for Butland that got rejected and Daily Record say it wasn’t them, that would suggest there are more clubs interested in signing him.

It’s possible that it’s just miscommunication and it’s only one club, but the more interest there is in the player the more chances of a big offer being made that might make the board think about a sale.

Obviously the initial response was no sale would be entertained this month, but money talks and if a Premier League club come in with an eight-figure offer just six months after Rangers signed him for nothing they’d surely be tempted.

The club simply cannot afford to let him go as he is by far the best goalkeeper in the country right now and he is largely the reason why this team is still in with a shout of the league title and in the Europa League.

Butland has been by far the player of the season so far and the club must stick to their word and keep him by any means necessary.
