Rangers make late £5m+ January transfer demand for Ridvan Yilmaz

Rangers have “suddenly” upped their asking price for Ridvan Yilmaz to £5.1million after he took his opportunity in the starting XI at Ibrox in recent weeks, according to Spor Arena.

The Turkish news outlet reported on 31 January that Galatasaray are still urgently looking for a left-back, with Yilmaz top of their list, but their highest offer was a £426,000 loan fee with a £2.56million option to buy.

It is said that Yilmaz has received a guarantee of playing time from the Istanbul-based club as he wants to get into the Turkey squad for the Euros, with Gala representatives now trying to convince Rangers to let him go.

Rangers could keep him after all

Yilmaz’s future at Ibrox has been one of the main talking points from this transfer window, with discussions rumbling on since the beginning of the month, but it now appears he could remain at Ibrox for the long term after all.

His recent performances after a spell in the Rangers first-team following an injury to Borna Barisic has seen his game hit new heights, with a clear step up in his displays, which may now tempt Philippe Clement to keep him in mind.

A new, higher asking price has apparently been set that seems to be out of Galatasaray’s reach given that they couldn’t reach the previous demand, which suggests Yilmaz’s future could be at Ibrox after all.

Rangers

It looks like there will be a busy final couple of days of the window for Rangers, with all eyes on the left-back’s potential move. It’s quite a simple scenario, if Galatasaray can pay the money then maybe he will leave. There has been no debate on personal terms, but with the ball in Rangers’ court, he could remain after all.
