Rangers grant permission for Jose Cifuentes to enter Ibrox exit talks amid £2m development

Rangers have granted Jose Cifuentes permission to enter into talks with Cruzeiro about a potential exit from Ibrox in the January transfer window, according to ge globo.

The Brazilian news outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (31 January) that the Gers have allowed the Ecuadorian international to discuss a loan move to the Brazilian club.

It added that the Light Blues want to include a £2million option-to-buy clause in the deal as the 24-year-old midfielder looks set to be leaving Glasgow just six months after arriving.

Makes sense

This has been one of Michael Beale’s summer signings that hasn’t lived anywhere near up to exception as Cifuentes looks to be closing on a quick exit from Rangers.

The club were so desperate to land the midfielder last summer that they stumped up a reported £1.2million to secure his services just months before his contract with LAFC was set to expire.

But it really hasn’t worked out for the Ecuadorian in Glasgow after he’s struggled to impress in his 20 appearances this season, the last of which came six weeks ago against Dundee.

Cifuentes

With Philippe Clement clearly not seeing him as part of his plans moving forward, it makes sense to get him off the wage bill and potentially make a small profit on him down the line with the option-to-buy clause.

There could still be a decent player in there after he’s shown flashes of what he can do, but it now seems extremely unlikely that he will ever play at Ibrox again.
