Rangers: Daily Record details Lawrence Shankland transfer expectation before deadline as Ibrox ‘opportunity’ mooted
The Daily Record has suggested that Lawrence Shankland is expected to not leave Hearts in the January transfer window, but Kenny Miller believes he would have a better “opportunity” at Rangers than Celtic.
The newspaper reported on its website on Tuesday (30 January) that Shankland is not expected to leave Tynecastle unless there is a late push from a potential suitor as Hearts are keen to tie him down to a new deal before the end of the January window.
However, Miller believes that the boyhood Rangers fan would be willing to join Brendan Rodgers’ side before the transfer deadline, but does admit that he would have a better chance of playing regularly at Ibrox.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (30 January) he said: “I don’t think if he is a Rangers fan there would be any convincing to go there [Celtic] at all. If Lawrence Shankland at this stage of his career saw either of the Old Firm come calling he would want to make it happen.
“He would want to work for a manager like Brendan Rodgers. That would be a massive plus for him. He has got a brilliant track record of taking players up a few levels. I don’t think he would take any convincing.
“I just think there is more of an opportunity for him at Rangers because they don’t have a Kyogo.”
Late push needed
It seems as though Hearts are keen to keep Shankland at Tynecastle unless a huge bid arrives at their door in the final moments of the January window and the Gers should be doing all that they can to make sure they win the race.
Philippe Clement needs a new number nine if he has genuine ambitions of lifting the Premiership title come the end of the season and Shankland would be the perfect solution given his knowledge of the division.

As Miller suggests, Rangers don’t have a Kyogo and having that sort of consistent source of goals can be decisive in title races. The Light Blues should move now to ensure that they aren’t beaten by the Hoops to the Scottish international’s signature.
At the very least, it would be good to see Rangers test Hearts’ resolve in the final days of the window. That way, they can at least know that they tried to solve their goalscoring issue.
